Architectural SectionThe Architectural Section exists from the very founding of the IAH- since 1961. It currently employs five architects who participate in all IAHs’ projects regarding built environment heritage in Croatia since the early middle Ages until the present day. For the purposes of settlement research (urban and semi-urban) as well as individual historical constructions and buildings, artistic topography and cultural heritage conservation studies, architectural recording and surveying is performed on site, and on the building itself. Based on the performed on- site measurings, the architectural documentation regarding the present situation is created, and the preservation state is established as well as the evaluation proposal and the restoration approach. During the last 15 years the architectural documentation is made digitally in AutoCAD, and the recordings are performed by a geodetic total station.
The result of the Architectural Section activities is an ample Plans Library in which over 8000 architectural plans and maps of historical cores of cities and settlements are stored as well as individual sacral and profane buildings which are mainly microfilmed and included in the central architectural documentation database at the Directorate for Historical and Natural Heritage protection of the Ministry of Culture. The complete digitalization of its fund is in course. Plans Library is used by researchers for further research, as well as for conservation purposes, e. g. it has been a very valuable source for the reconstruction/restoration of urban settlements and individual monuments damaged during the war.
The Archive of the architect Stjepan Planić, registered as a part of national cultural heritage, consists of drawings, plans and architectural designs made by Stjepan Planić from 1928 until 1980, specifically over 750 plans of villas, family houses, residential buildings, office buildings, interiors and public buildings. Other services of the Architectural Section are as follows: -- preparing scientific and expert requirements for spatial documentation, -- processing architectural photographs, as well as collections of architectural documentation of selected buildings, -- architectural surveying and measurement the existing state of selected buildings, -- drawing/executing the conservatory architectural documentation, in proportion -- processing the plans and maps for art historical topography, -- providing expert opinions, -- exchanging architectural documentation with other national and public institutions, -- handing over architectural documentation – under certain terms – to other persons and organisations, -- researching, analysing and managing the “Planić Archives”, as well as preparing and handing over plans to researchers, students, and institutions, -- researching and studying the cultural heritage, and documenting it. |
